some interesting facts.

Operation desert shield/storm happened on august 2, 1990. At the beginning of the war the name of it was called desert shield. On January 16, 1991 the first phase of desert storm had begun. Operation Desert Storm is also known as the First Gulf war. Kuwait was a part of Iraq until 1923 which is one reason that Iraq considers Kuwait still apart of Iraq. The first US combat forces didn’t return until March 8, 1991. Ground war didn’t begin until February 23, 1991. The cost of the war was about 60 billion dollars. The majority of the wars costs were covered by Saudi Arabia. Towards the end of the war the United States gave relief supply to Kurdish refugees in Turkey and northern Iraq.

What happened in operation Desert Storm.

Operation desert shield/desert storm was a war between Iraq and Kuwait that the United States tried to stop. For the USA desert storm was a mission to defend Kuwait from Iraq. It started because Iraq invaded and seized Kuwait because Saddam Hussein accused Kuwait of overproduction of oil and of steeling oil from the Rumailia Oil Field. The United Nations told Hussein to withdraw. The United States along with other UN nations deployed troops to try to withdraw Iraq from taking over Kuwait. Iraq has always considered Kuwait as a part of Iraq so that was another reason why Iraq invaded Kuwait. The United States used force when Iraq did not withdraw. The United States war planes attacked Baghdad, Kuwait and more military targets in Iraq. The reason why the United States attacked Iraq is because Iraq tried to use deadly force against us first. Finally Iraq withdraws giving Kuwait total control over their country.
